CALL FOR ARTISTS

“Survival of the Fittest”
An exhibition of 100 artists' takes on the above theme at the Olympics and Paralympics Visitors Campsite at the Waterworks Nature Reserve
20 July – 1 October 2012
20 July Private View

BACKGROUND
The Lee Valley Nature Reserve and Golf Centre on Lea Bridge Road in Walthamstow will be turned into a campsite for visitors of the Olympic and Paralympic games which will see tens of thousands of visitors. The educational centre of the nature reserve will house some big screens for visitors to follow the games they can’t attend in person, and I have been invited to use the extensive wallspace to present art. (If you are visiting the centre to see it, please note most of what is currently on the walls will disappear and we will have ample wallspace in several areas.)

BRIEF
I would like artists to produce a wall hung framed work of any medium, inspired by the theme of “Survival of the Fittest”, working to a standard size for all of 30x40cm portrait. The works will be displayed as a “ribbon” running around the building, to create uniformity and catch the eye in this busy environment. I am looking forward to displaying works full of bite, zest, humour, poetry, diversity of styles, framed and presented to a very professional standard. There is space for up to 100 artists. So please pass the invitation on.

FEE
The participation fee is £40 per piece. This also covers a printed catalogue.
Non-UK artists: Pieces to be sent with perspex instead of glass. The fee for non-UK artists is £50 (or 60 Euros).

SELECTION PROCEDURE
Please email a mock up/sketch of the piece you are proposing, stating title, medium and idea/inspiration in 50 words, to katja@artcatcher.co.uk by Sunday, 12 February 2012. You will then receive an email to confirm whether you have been selected by Sunday, 26 February 2012, with instructions of how to secure your place with payment by Sunday 11 March.

PROJECT TIMELINE
Please see the project timeline below.
Please note that, due to the limited amount of preparation time, the deadlines on the timeline are not flexible and I cannot afford to chase artists. So make sure you bring the required amount of time to the project before you commit.
