FAITHS AND BELIEFS – COMMON GROUND DISCUSSION
Sunday 11 September, 2-4pm
Tea, coffee, cake
Outside if the weather is nice or alternatively inside, surrounded by the art exhibition
Free - RSVP to [email protected]
This afternoon is dedicated to discussing and celebrating the common roots, ideas of God or Life, rituals as well as hopes and dreams we share, no matter which one of the many religious or spiritual beliefs we do or don't own up to.
We would particularly like to warmly invite you if you belong to a particular faith that you feel passionate about because we would like to hear from you how it has been significant to you throughout your life.
We hope the afternoon will lead to some surprising insights and perspectives and to a nice memory of an afternoon with tea and cake and nice people in the grounds of the Church.

THE M-TRACE
Wednesday 7 September, 1-6pm Thursday 8 September, 1-6pm Watch lawn artist Ralf Witthaus create his piece in the gardens of St Pancras Church (facing Euston Road) Free - just come and witness The M-Trace is a site-specific drawing cut into the lawn. It creates a connection between the entrance of the garden and the red side doors of the church. Through the relentless heaving traffic created by office workers, vehicles and tourists, the garden of St Pancras Church is gently reclaiming a gentle aura of spiritual context and reflection. Please explore the drawing to discover and explore the various pictorial and typographic elements. EAST LONDON LIFE DRAWING: HAIRY MARY Saturday 10 September 2-4pm by East London Life Drawing – facilitator Ed Firth Suggested donation of £3 Email [email protected] to register Mixed-ability life drawing sessions led by a professional artist in a real church crypt, surrounded by the 100 Madonnas exhibition. We provide everything you need - pencils, paper and art board, the model, snacks, drinks, venue, with guidance available for anyone who would like some help improving their work. These sessions are intended to let you practise life drawing in a comfortable, creative, supportive space with fellow pencil pushers. Some of our lifers are experienced professional creatives and some are total novices; all experience levels are welcome and there's no pressure on anybody to share their work or reach any standard! Now into our second year and welcoming new faces every week - if you haven't picked up a pencil in years or never tried it before, this is the session for you. We move briskly through 10-15 poses, from messy 1 minute challenges, with progressively longer drawings ending with a 20 or 30 minute final pose to put into practise what you've learned. Life drawing is a discipline you never stop practising; it's an important regular exercise for your hand-to-eye coordination, your perception and your sketching technique. If you'd like some assistance constructing your drawings, just ask. Feel free to bring any extra art materials you might want to play with, and stick around afterward for the gong bath with Mystery School of Sound! MYSTERY SCHOOL OF SOUND THE KYBALION GONG BATH Saturday 10 September 4-6pm by Mark and Paul Cummings Suggested donation of £3 Email [email protected] to register Mystery School of Sound present a gong bath in a crypt. Gong baths are a type of sound therapy, and an opportunity to relax and meditate while vibrations from 5 hand-beaten bronze gongs wash over you. Mark and Paul Cummings are brothers and artists who create an immersive and refreshing sonic session of around 45 minutes, drawing on the tenets of the Kybalion and visualisation techniques to inspire your inner journey. Many people describe experiencing strange and enlightening visions, sensations of levitation, and deep states of calm during the gong bath. The resonance of the crypt space should provide a dramatic and powerful amplification for the session. |

TRIPTYCH-TYCHTRIP (Are you Triptych – ilish?) Friday 16 September, 2-4pm by Jai Preece and Rosy Oddy £2 per participant. From 3-103 years. Under 16s must be accompanied. Email [email protected] to register Triptich workshop where you will create a hinged 3 part piece of art - we are here to build them with you and to guide you through the process. In this workshop you will create a fun and quirky triptych from folded recycled cardboard, upcycled with pens, pastels, paints and collage and plenty of glorious gold paint to celebrate the people (and other creatures) you love and feel inspired by. Thinking about various symbols and forms of decoration you will depict yourself (or something that represents you) in the centre of two opposite panels. In your triptych you could be surrounded by your favourite pets, friends or family members. It could depict things you love on one side and things you hate on the other. Personal identity could be explored with an exterior portrait and an inner mindscape that reflects your past, present and future, exploring regrets and wishes. Themes could be fantasy and reality, organic and manmade etc. Examples will be pre-made to aid with inspiration with collage materials and images on hand to use for reference or feel free to bring photos or drawings of things you would like to depict. Tuition and guidance will be given on portrait drawing and mythical creatures with examples taken from Bosch's fantastical worlds and art from traditional early renaissance religious altarpieces. The outsides and edges can be cut and decorated with 3 Dimensional elements to add more depth and purpose. Triptychs can be made to tell a story or have a hidden image so powerful that it needs hiding from the world with folding panels. Artists including Picasso, Frances Bacon and Basquiat all created triptych paintings. |
